Tool - WWF Modular Implementation and Verification (MIV) Toolkit by webadmin — last modified 2006-08-20 22:09
This links to the WWF Modular Implementation and Verification (MIV) toolkit which provides a practical tool for achieving a phased or step-wise application of forest management standards and certification. It is now widely recognised that the process of implementing responsible forestry standards and achieving forest certification is very challenging. With the help of the MIV toolkit, certification becomes more accessible to forest managers in many parts of the world. The tool is being used by the WWF Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN)'s Producer Groups. For the full suite of tools go to: {http://www.panda.org/}

Tool - WWF Pyramid - Diagnostic and Planning Tool by webadmin — last modified 2006-08-20 22:09
In an effort to identify and prioritize interventions that would advance sound forest management, the World Bank/WWF Alliance has developed "The Pyramid - A diagnostic and planning tool for good forest governance." It is hoped that this tool will stimulate participatory assessment and target-setting at the country level. The concept behind the pyramid diagnostic and planning tool is that some elements of good forest governance are common to a wide range of nations. By grouping these elements in several tiers of complexity, the pyramid can serve as a country level planning tool in forest management. In a multi-stakeholder process, the tool can be used to assess the status of forest governance using a scoring system to identify what is working, what is missing, and what needs to be done for different elements of forest governance. This links to the site to download the kit {http://www.iied.org/docs/flu/PT6_pyramid.pdf}. Also see the World Bank's website Community and Good Governance site at {http://lnweb18.worldbank.org/}
Tool - WWF Tools for Forest Managers and Wood Sourcing in Asia Pacific by webadmin — last modified 2006-08-20 22:09
This WWF site provides tools for forest managers who seeks certification, as well as those who wish improve their forest management. See the "related documents and links" in the box for reports and tools related to the following topics. (1) Stepwise Approach to Certification: A stepwise approach helps forest managers achieve certification through a series of manageable phases, one step at a time. This approach will facilitate assessement of progress towards certification, and at the same time provides a way to differentiate products from forests in transition towards certification to those from poorly or illegally managed forests. See the ITTO report on stepwise approaches and the MIV Toolkit from the box. (2) Reduced-Impact Logging Tool: This tool is a financial modelling software designed for forest managers. It can rapidly compare financial costs and returns expected from reduced-impact logging with those expected from conventional logging, under identical local site conditions. Click on the RILSIM website in the box to download the software free of charge. (3) Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification: CoC certification is a process of tracking wood products from the forest of origin to the point of sale. This will ensure that wood products do come from certified forest. A CoC certification should provide data on species, volumes, and quality, and the system should extend all the way back to the forest ofrigin. Managers of forests and manufacturing facilities can benefit from CoC details for quality management, safety and financial control. See guidance to CoC certification.

Forest Trends by Portal Web Editor — last modified 2007-06-03 15:34
Forest Trends is an international non-profit organization that works to expand the value of forests to society; to promote sustainable forest management and conservation by creating and capturing market values for ecosystem services; to support innovative projects and companies that are developing these new markets; and to enhance the livelihoods of local communities living in and around those forests. We analyze strategic market and policy issues, catalyze connections between forward-looking producers, communities and investors, and develop new financial tools to help markets work for conservation and people.
