Dr. Rose Hessmiller was in charge of administration and production of special projects, distance education, telemedicine, and behavioral health for the University of New Mexico’s Division of Continuing Education and Community Services (UNMCE&CS).  Duties included the design, development, marketing, technical assistance, and evaluation of projects and courses involving information and telecommunications technology solutions.  This included the creation of interactive websites and web courses, CD production, satellite television and digital video broadcasts, audio conferences, virtual simulation case-studies, network designs, system operations, professional and curriculum development, grant writing, and onsite program support.

Projects administered at UNMDCE&CS included:


Project TTEC (Training Teachers on Emergency Certificate) Director of distance delivered graduate and upper division undergraduate television, audio conferencing and web-based courses to New Mexico educators.

Bureau of Indian Affairs Technology Assessment Project Consultant assessing Northern and Southern Pueblos’ technology infrastructure.  Developed the Information Technology Plans for all the Northern and Southern Pueblos including the Jicarilla Apache, Navajo and Zuni School Districts as well as completing all E-Rate proposals for BIA IT Connectivity.

The UNITE Project (Universities Networked for Transdisciplinary Education) hosted by UNM Health Science Center Producer of the distance learning project bridging the Schools of Medicine, Law, Architecture, Social Work, Education, and Psychiatry.


Project House Bill 981 Director of a multi-media project networking Community Transition Teams, K-12 Schools, and postsecondary institutions to ensure individuals with disabilities entry into higher education.


Project SET-UP (Special Education Training-University Programs) Director of the project providing face-to-face graduate and upper division undergraduate credit programming during intensive institutes at multiple sites in New Mexico.


Project DEFY (Distance Education for Youth) Consultant providing technical assistance in information technology and program development for staff in juvenile correctional facilities.


Libraries for the Future, El Rito Project Community Library Information Collaborative in Northern New Mexico.

Continuum of Care Project hosted by Carrie Tingley Hospital Director of the web-based telecommunications technology bringing critical training in developmental disabilities to primary care physicians around New Mexico.
