Juan Fernandez Rock Lobster Traceability Project

A project to set up electronic traceability from boat to plate with some 64 artisanal rock lobster fishermen in Chile.

ThisFish, in collaboration with the Walton Family Foundation, National Geographic Society’s Pristine Seas, the Chilean government, local fishermen, Juan Fernandez’s Municipality and exporters, set up electronic traceability in the MSC-certified rock lobster (Jasus frontalis) fishery in the Juan Fernandez Archipelago of Chile. The objective of the pilot project is to improve the chain of custody for the certified product, improve the marketing of the rock lobster via consumer-facing traceability and improve catch reporting to the government. The project is focused on approximately 64 artisanal fishing vessels operating from Robinson Crusoe Island.
