Development of a globally recognized framework to evaluate tropical small scale fisheries against environmental sustainability standards

Building and investment in sustainable small scale fisheries in Indonesia and the Philippines.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program is partnering with Rare, Asian Seafood Improvement Collaborative (ASIC) and Salty Girl Seafood to develop a framework for recognition of small-scale fisheries that have met Seafood Watch environmental standards. This collaboration aims to build capacity in small-scale fisheries and bring economic benefits to fisherman, build local capacity and capabilities, and the marketability of fishery products that have met sustainability standards. Pilot of framework will be in 3-4 fisheries in the Philippines and Indonesia.
