File GRIP for FRAME by Carmen Tedesco — last modified Jan 10, 2013 11:40 AM
The Geographically Referenced Information Portal (GRIP) concept is built on the premise that information objects (documents, images, data, etc.) have spatial properties that can be viewed on a map interface and that these properties can significantly enhance the data discovery and knowledge synthesis processes. The GRIP system provides the tools for cataloging, searching, and visualizing this “geographically referenced” information. This allows for not only standard keyword searching but also the ability to search for documents, images, GIS data, and other media across multiple data sources using spatial searching in a map viewer. This document provides a brief overview of GRIP and its functionalities.

File La Teledetección satelital y los sistemas de protección ambiental by Carmen Tedesco — last modified Jan 10, 2013 11:40 AM

File Modeling Forest Loss in the Zahamena-Mantadia Forest Corridor, Madagascar by Portal Web Editor — last modified Jan 10, 2013 11:40 AM
A systems model, developed for a 2004 workshop in Toamasina, Madagascar, indicates that even widespread adoption of improved agricultural practices in the Zahamena-Mantadia forest corridor in Madagascar will not stop deforestation there.  This report shows how introduction of improved agricultural practices must be coupled with intervention to prevent further deforestation.  It also yields insights into the relationships among improved agricultural productivity, increase in wages in non-agricultural employment, demographic trends, and rates of deforestation.
