Ecological Impacts of Lionfish

Ecological Impacts of Lionfish

Before lionfish began to spread throughout the Atlantic and Caribbean, very little was known about this invasive species, including basic biological facts. NOAA’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science has been working hard to fill those gaps in our scientific knowledge and to track the invasion as it spreads. But the situation is a dynamic one: the circumstances that keep lionfish in check in the Indo-Pacific don’t exist here; lionfish are getting bigger and reaching higher densities than in their native waters.
