Webinar Series: Moving From Reference Levels to REDD+ Results
The UN-REDD Programme is organizing a series of webinars on REDD+ results reporting, entitled Moving from reference levels to REDD+ results. The webinars will provide an update on recent reference level submissions, BUR annexes on REDD+ results, and the associated processes for technical assessments and analysis.
The objective of the webinars is to share knowledge and discuss with experts, REDD+ results reporting under the UNFCCC, including the BUR REDD+ results annex and FREL/FRL submission and related technical assessment and analysis processes.
The first three countries have submitted REDD+ results to the UNFCCC and as many as 15 countries have submitted REDD+ reference levels. Years of hard work begin to pay off as countries move closer to fulfilling all modalities for REDD+ under the UNFCCC. Beyond these 15 countries, many others are working on reference level proposals and REDD+ results reporting. Technical intricacies can be complex, procedural rules can be cumbersome, and the technical assessment and analysis process can be a novel learning opportunity for country teams.
The UN-REDD Programme has provided active support to more than half of the countries that have submitted their REDD+ reference level to the UNFCCC. The Programme is pleased to invite you to join this series of three regional webinars to exchange lessons learned and experiences with governmental and experts that are actively engaged with REDD+.
The three sessions will be moderated by Till Neeff, Philippe Crête and Rocío Condor (FAO). They will include thoughts, remarks and answers to questions by:
-- Edersson Cabrera, Colombia
-- TBD, Mexico
-- Elizabeth Philip, Malaysia
-- Alexander Lotsch and Andrés Espejo, World Bank FCPF
-- Danae Maniatis, United Nations Development Programme, UN-REDD / UNDP
-- Marieke Sandker, Ángel Parra and Lucio Santos, FAO/UN-REDD, REDD+ reference level experts
-- Julian Fox, Erik Lindquist, Anne Branthomme, and Carla Ramirez FAO, forest measurement experts
The event will take place in three sessions:
-- Wednesday June 22, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. (Rome) / 10:00 a.m. (Washington) – in Spanish language mainly for participants from Latin America
-- Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. (Rome) / 3:00 p.m. (Singapore) – in English language mainly for participants from Asia and Africa
-- Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. (Rome) / 2:00 p.m. (Kinshasa) – in French language mainly for participants from Africa
Participants will be invited to pose questions and engage with the panellists in a discussion on technical issues related to REDD+ reference levels and results reporting. The speakers will share knowledge and experience from their own countries. The panellists will address questions from the audience and discuss topics related to REDD+ results reporting under the UNFCCC, including the submission of the forest reference (emission) levels and the REDD+ technical annex to the biennial update report, as well as the related technical assessment and technical analysis processes under the UNFCCC.
