Nuwer is an award-winning freelance journalist who reports about science, travel, food, and adventure for The New York Times, National Geographic, BBC Future, and other outlets. To research Poached, Rachel traveled to 10 countries to explore the forces currently driving demand for animals and their parts. She also studied the toll that demand is extracting on species across the planet and on the conservationists, rangers, and activists who believe it is not too late to stop the impending extinctions.
