The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) is the Australian Government's central piece of environmental legislation. It provides a legal framework to protect and manage, amongst other things, threatened species and ecological communities, migratory species to which an international agreement applies, and World Heritage sites. In October 2012, the Australian Government released the EPBC Environmental Offset Policy and Offsets Assessment Guide to guide the use of environmental offsets during the EPBC environmental impact assessment process. These documents were prepared following extensive research and testing, involving close consultation with the scientific community, environmental groups and peak industry bodies. The webinar will focus on the development and operation of these documents.
