BrownBag Presentation Announcement: The Central African Forestry Commission (COMIFAC)

Dr. André Kamdem Toham will present on his work and experience with the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC). As part of the USAID Central Africa Regional Program for the Environment (CARPE), Dr. Kamdem serves as the United States Forest Service Regional Technical Advisor based at COMIFAC. His position supports the development and execution of the COMIFAC workplan, coordination between donor support to COMIFAC, implementation of USFS technical support to COMIFAC, and serves as the primary liaison for communication between COMIFAC and CARPE.

About Dr. André Kamdem:

Dr. André Kamdem Toham, a native from Cameroon, grew up in the tropical forest are where his graduate studies were divided between the south east and south west Cameroon. Prior to USFS, a long-time senior staff at WWF, Dr. Kamdem, served many positions within the organization including: Ecoregion Coordinator, WWF Regional Representative (a.i.) for the Congo Basin, Senior Ecoregion Leader & Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) Manager, and Regional Director for Conservation for the WWF Central Africa Regional Program.

Dr. Kamdem is proud of the reflections of his contributions to the region through the recent naming of two newly discovered species: a Cameroonian fish, Fundulopanchax Kamdemi, and a forest-dwelling gecko in Gabon, Hemidactylus Kamdemtohami. A PhD in Aquatic Ecology, he undertook a postdoctoral research work focusing on Gabon at Cornell University (Ithaca) in 1998.
