Zoologist, artist, and author Jonathan Kingdon is the undisputed authority on African mammals. From aardvarks to zebras, he has found them, studied them, and drawn meticulously detailed and beautiful illustrations of them. Kingdon, who teaches at Oxford and conducts research across the African continent, is making a rare U.S. appearance to celebrate the publication of The Mammals of Africa (Bloomsbury). The 6-volume, 4,000-page work is the result of a 15-year effort to produce the definitive book on the topic, and Kingdon is its originator, primary editor, and illustrator.
