U.S. Forest Service International Programs Seminar Series Presents: Land Management Planning, National Forest Inventory, and Capacity Building: The U.S. Forest Service in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The US Forest Service, as part of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Central Africa Regional Program for the Environment, is working in the Democratic Republic of Congo to support the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Tourism in its multi-stakeholder and multi sector land use planning activities. Dr. Toni Lyn Morelli will present an update on activities over the last two years and discuss where zoning, national forest inventory, and REDD+ activities are headed in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Toni Lyn Morelli has worked in Africa for over 10 years, including conducting her Ph.D. research in Madagascar.  She is currently the Technical Advisor for the US Forest Service in the Democratic Republic of Congo.US Forest Service through the Office of International Programs, has been an implementing partner with Central Africa Regional Program for the Environment, since its inception. The US Forest Service provides targeted technical assistance and capacity building in Central Africa, focusing on national and landscape scale resource inventory, planning, and management to address the challenges that national governments face in managing their natural resources sustainably for the benefit of their people while conserving the biodiversity and ecosystem services of their countries.
