File Assessment of Joint Programming Possibilities Between the Department of State's Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) and USAID's G/ENV by Portal Web Editor — last modified Jan 10, 2013 12:47 PM
The leadership of the USAID Global Bureau Center for Environment (G/ENV) and the Department of State’s Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) engaged International Resources Group (IRG) to determine ways to enhance overall cooperation between the two organizations. The request grew from the Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act, passed by Congress in 1998, and a June 1999 memorandum from Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to then USAID Administrator Brian Atwood, both of which emphasized a closer State Department–USAID relationship. The assignment also resulted from a belief, shared by Assistant Secretary Sandalow and Deputy Assistant Administrator Hales, that a greater degree of coordination could result in synergies beneficial to both OES and G/ENV. File Background note for WaterAid Australia’s Workshop on Hygiene Promotion, June 2010 by Portal Web Editor — last modified Jan 10, 2013 11:01 AM
This note explores the various behavioural change models that analytically and methodologically guide hygiene promotion programmes. It describes the level and process of change each model or theory uses (e.g.individual internal change/change processes, inter-personal and group changes/change processes and community-based change) and offers informative insights in the development of a more robust model to better analyse hygiene promotion programmes. The note ends with a recommendation for the use of the FOAMS model (Devine 2009) which incorporates elements from most of the behavioural change models and theories assessed in this note. This note is a work in progress. File EarthTrends Country Profile - Water Resources and Freshwater Ecosystems - Angola by Portal Web Editor — last modified Jan 10, 2013 11:08 AM
EarthTrends Country Profile - Water Resources and Freshwater Ecosystems - Angola, from WRI: Most Freshwater resources data were provided by AQUASTAT, a global database of water statistics maintained by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). AQUASTAT collects its information from a number of sources--national water resources and irrigation master plans; national yearbooks, statistics and reports; FAO reports and project documents; international surveys; and, results from surveys done by national or international research centers. In most cases, a critical analysis of the information was necessary to ensure consistency among the different data collected for a given country. AQUASTAT was developed by FAO in 1993; data have been available on-line since 2001. Most freshwater data are not available in a time series, and the global data set contains data collected over a time span of up to 30 years. AQUASTAT updates their website as new data become available, or when FAO conducts special regional studies. Studies were conducted in Africa in 1994, the Near East in 1995-96, the former Soviet republics in 1997, selected Asian countries in 1998-99, and Latin America & the Caribbean in 2000. Data from the Blue Plan on Mediterranean water withdrawals were last updated in 2002. Most data updates include revisions of past data.
